Workstream three

Paid, on LinkedIn

Three audiences, four campaigns. The spend is weighted deliberately towards after the event, because six days of pre-event spend buys very little and the people we want are travelling.

Solve this today or the ads miss the event

Both list uploads will fail as they stand

LinkedIn requires a matched audience to have at least 300 rows to upload and to resolve to 300 matched members before it will serve. We have 226 contacts across 183 organizations. Neither clears the floor, so the upload is rejected at the door.

The fix

Pad the company list past 300 by merging the 183 event organizations with account lists we already hold: the US master, the Europe list, the HubSpot signal list, and the corporate buyers who did not make the shortlist. Keeps the event accounts inside the audience. Roughly a two-hour job.

The backstop

Run attribute targeting alongside it. No list required, so it cannot fail. Slower to aim but it will definitely deliver, which matters with six days on the clock.

The clock

Lists take 24 to 48 hours to process and another 24 to flow into targeting. Upload on Oct 14 and ads can run from the 16th. Upload on the 17th and they go live after the event.

Audiences

A1 · event accounts, padded

The 183 M&A East organizations plus existing account lists, to clear 300. Layered with job titles: CIO, IT director, head of technology, CDO, CMO, marketing ops, revenue ops, corporate development, COO. United States.

A2 · attribute targeting

No list. Same job titles, headcount 200 to 5,000, industries across management consulting, financial services, insurance, industrial manufacturing and business services. Plus a Philadelphia-metro variant for the event window.

A3 · retargeting

Everyone who engages with A1 or A2, plus visitors to the M&A page. This is where the real money goes, because it runs after the event when conversations have started.

Exclusions

Curotec, Eliassen Group, Equiteq, Progress Partners and the usual competitor set. They are on the attendee list and there is no reason to pay to reach them.

Campaigns

55% of spend sits after the event. That is deliberate: no optimization window before it, expensive early impressions, and the audience is in transit.

CAMPAIGN 1DOCUMENT AD

The 2-pager as the asset

Intro: An acquisition buys you a company and a second set of everything. A second website on a different platform, a second content system, a second definition of what counts as a customer. The deal model counts the revenue and the headcount. It rarely counts the estate.

CAMPAIGN 2SINGLE IMAGE

Attribute targeting

We checked the public websites of 14 acquisitive US companies and the 26 brand sites beneath them. Most are running two of everything.

CAMPAIGN 3EVENT WINDOW

Philadelphia, during the event

At M&A East this week? We spend most of our time with groups that have just folded two or three companies together, and with the question of what the acquired companies should run on.

Headline: In Philadelphia, Oct 20-21
CTA: Request a meeting

CAMPAIGN 455% OF SPEND

Retargeting

The deal closed. The estate did not. Seven questions worth asking about a target's digital estate before you sign, and none of them require a technologist in the room.

What we measure

The only number that decides this

Qualified meetings held. Everything else is a leading indicator.

Secondary

Reply rate on the must-meet outreach, document-ad leads, and cost per meeting by source once it is over. That last one settles the paid-versus-outbound argument for the next event with evidence instead of opinion.

Deliberately ignored

Impressions and click-through. On a six-day runway they will look poor regardless of quality, and optimizing for them would push spend to the wrong place.
